What we keep
This site is mostly a place to look. A few things you leave behind are kept, and this page says which, why, and for how long. It is written as plainly as we can — the shorter version is on the cookie banner.
What we receive
Photos you contribute
The image itself, the name you type, and — only if you give them — the place label and coordinates. These appear in the universe for everyone. You can delete any of them yourself, at any time, from the screen where you uploaded them; the file and the record go together.
Tapes you make
The sender and recipient names, the letter, and the songs you chose. A tape is made to be passed on, so it is readable by whoever holds the link.
Email address
Only if you hand it over — to subscribe, or to keep a token you could otherwise lose. Newsletters carry a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing erases the address rather than marking it.
The shape of a visit
Only if you allowed analytics. A visit gets a temporary number that lives in the browser tab and disappears when it closes; with it we record which screens a visit passed and where it came from. No account, no name, no address.
How long
Analytics records are erased after 90 days; what remains is anonymous counts. Photos, tapes and email addresses stay until you remove them — they are the work itself, not a measurement. Backups hold a copy for 14 days on our server and 90 days off it, so a mistake stays recoverable for a while.
Who reads it
We do. We do not sell it and we do not hand it to advertisers. It does pass through the companies that run the machines for us — the database and file storage, the servers and the delivery network in front of them, the store, the mail sender. Embedded videos come from YouTube, and that player sets its own cookies under its own policy.
Cookies
Four small ones. One remembers your language, one your sound and what you hold, one keeps a visit whole for half an hour when it continues at the store, and one records the answer you gave the banner. None of them follows you anywhere else.
What you can do
Change your cookie answer whenever you like — the link sits at the bottom of the project list. Delete your photos yourself from the screen you uploaded them on. Unsubscribe from the link in any newsletter. For anything else — to ask what we hold, or to have it removed — write to us and we will answer.
